This book sounds a lot like "The Passage" by Justin Cronin, and I love that book. Would I enjoy this book also?

I read this book or 9 years ago. It was very well written and depressing as hell. I tried to write what would have been my first review on Goodreads about it but I was just too stunned after reading it and didn't do it. Were there sequels by this author? I've searched high and low and never come across anything else by this author. Help please! This was my choice for best book of that year.
