BOOK 1 - Rating: 3.5 stars. It is somewhat different to other novels of this genre, due mostly to the heroin being a midwife. I enjoyed it, but it does have different moments of intensity. It engaged me more at some times than others, however, there are some situations that are definitely memorable.
This book could work just as well if the characters were older.
BOOK 1.5 - Rating 3 stars.
BOOK 2 - Rating 4.5 stars. I am very surprised about this book. It was very interesting the whole time. It made me feel angry so many times towards Gaia and her attitude about everything that was going on that I became frustrated. I love a book that awakens strong emotions in me. I enjoyed it so much! I liked the first book of this series, but Prized is definitely an improvement from the first installment. This story is more complex, it evolves fluidly and maintains your attention at all times. I have to say though, that Leon's character disappointed me a bit this time. I was expecting a deeper development in him, explanations to really show us who he is and where he is coming from.
One of the thins I appreciate most, is that this series is not immature, it doesn't have a high-school or childiss felling to it even though it is a young adult novel, thus it could function just as well if we where to age the characters.
BOOK 3 - Rating: 2.5 stars It's ok. I was disappointed. I was expecting so much more since I loved the second book so much....more
No character development. Absurd, pointless and massively underdeveloped love triangle. No real plot. Unemotional Audiobook narration. Great Cover.

One of the best Young Adult Fantasy series that I have read in a very long time. I devoured it.
Very interesting, very engaging, with complex and entertaining storyline and characters. Not a dull moment. With no predictability here, this series kept me immersed on the story since the very beginning of the first book all the way to the end.
I completely recommend it.
On a personal note, I would have preferred this book as a new adult fantasy series, some adult content here would have been welcome as well as more cohesive due to the maturity of the characters and seriousness of the matters. I would have also liked more time spend on the love story to have a more developed and satisfactory romance. Those 2 are the only reasons I am not giving this series 5 stars....more

I am too bored to continue. The plot has barely moved on after over half a book. By this point I have no interest left on the story or the DNF at 55%

I liked the friendship group. I liked the world. There are many weak aspects though:
The whole academy situation is pretty unrealistic. Overall, there is barely any adult supervision, and nothing at all at the dorms. The food situations for humans, more than neglectful, it seems abusive and classists, which makes no sense based on what we now of the headmaster. Also, the amount of time spent on the cooking class is extremely long and boring and almost made me quit. By the way, it's that an actual real class in the USA, or it is just part of the fantasy? If it is real I couldn't be more shocked. It is offensive, incredibly wasteful, useless and just plane unbelievable. Learning to make cookies... on school time, my mind can't compute, and she has that class more than once a week... I jus't can't.
Meg choices made me not like her very much, as well as all her similarities to Twilight Bella. Also, she is a complainer and a pushover. An example would be what happens with the selection of some of her classes. She is all worked up for getting into a low level English class, yet when she has the chance to something about it she passes it up because the boy she likes, and that she just met, is on it (also, why is he on that class to begin with, he is being in the academy for years!). Then, she complains about being at the home economics class and yet she lets it be, instead of getting the hell out of there.
Griffindor, ups, sorry, I mean Edward, ups, no, I meant Griffin... . Well, saying that he is underdeveloped doesn't begin to cover it. We know almost nothing about him. Who is he? Why should I care?
The romance is very weak and underdeveloped. Griffin and Meg have very little moments of connection. They are basically strangers that after less than a week of meeting each other and have only a couple of conversations, are suddenly forever in love.
All the Harry Potter and Twilight similarities were really annoying and unnecessary, it just made the whole thing less interesting and unoriginal.
Despite all the faults, which there are many more, I was entertained and I am curios about the next installments....more
