Online comic adaptation of the Innkeeper Chronicles: On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town with her seemingly harmless Shih Tzu named Beast. But Dina is...different. Her Inn can magically defy the laws of physics, her broom is a deadly weapon, and her little dog is far from harmless. Under the circumstances, "normal" is a bit of a stretch for Dina. And now, something with wicked claws and deepwater teeth has begun to hunt at night....Feeling responsible for her neighbors, Dina decides to get involved. Before long, she has to juggle dealing with the annoyingly attractive, ex-military, new neighbor, Sean Evans—an alpha-strain werewolf—and the equally arresting cosmic vampire soldier, Arland, while trying to keep her Inn and its guests safe. But the enemy she’s facing is unlike anything she’s ever encountered before. It’s smart, vicious, lethal… and putting herself between this creature and her neighbors might just cost her everything.
April 29, 2023: Season 1 finally finished with 50 episodes. I hope they adapt the second book! Read via Tapas.
August 19, 2022: I love this series and I’m so freaking excited about the Tapas webcomic adaptation. It updates weekly on Fridays. Click here for more information: https://tapas.io/series/the-innkeeper...
This was everything I wanted from this graphic novel. As a huge fan of the books I had high expectations coming into it but I loved it so much. Dina and Sean are perfect, Soren and his facial hair aren't my favourite and I'm undecided on Arland's appearance. But all the little story details are amazing. Loved the coffee scene, so funny. And all the banter, particularly between Sean and Dina comes across so well. Love it. Cannot wait for the next volume.
Still it's it as bad as the graphic novels that are published in 6-12 parts so there is another book to come. It's quite an accurate rendition of the story except they have made Dina very immature and juvenile, same with Sean. Thickness over most when the two are interacting with each other and is even shown in the hardworking the drawings going very childish. Not a fan myself but some I'll like it I'm sure. Hope we don't have to wait too long for book two........
Love triangle: Check Vampires: Check Werewolves: Check Werecats: Check Snarky remarks: Check Headstrong female lead: Check Dripping Sarcasm: Check Did it make me smile: Check Did it make me blush: Check Did it make me want more: Check Witty references to other books or series: Check, check and double check!!!
Man I loved this. It made me even think about picking up the real books but then I saw the covers and I just noped out. I'll wait for them to make a manga adaption of the second book. Because wow. I mean really, we had a good thing going here and then both of them left. Like seriously?! And I feel like her "permanent" guest has a past that might be coming back for her. Also I know this isn't over yet!!!! And I loved the fact that so many reference where made to certain books, movies and series, one of my best friends series got dragged trough the mud and I loved it, marveled at it and truly enjoyed it. I think that sometimes reading a graphic novel or manga makes it easier to read but I often miss how you can read between the lines. Didn't miss that here. Of course I can't compare it to the book since I haven't read that. But still. Loved it!
The comic is running a nice balance between being faithful to the source material and expanding some aspects of the story where they make sense for the medium. The weekly episode drops also remind me of the weekly releases of the original story on the Andrews blog, so that just fits too.
It's been 10 or more years ago when I read Clean Sweep for the first time so I don't know if the graphic novel version is true to its original version. Since I know that with different media, there's will be change here and there. Reading this graphic novel make me want to do a re-read to compare the story.
Art wise, the art is not my favorite although the lineart is clean and defined. Plus point, the illustrator, Shinju Ageha is an Indonesian like me! I like that many Indonesian illustrator know work for webtoon, and I'm glad that Shinju Ageha got chosen to bring Clean Sweep characters and story into webtoon format. I don't remember much the novel version, but this webtoon version is pretty much humorous with some of tongue in check dialogue. The book also just covered episode 1 to 25 that published online first in Tapas. I hope volume 2 will be published too in 2024 so I can read book vol 1 and vol 2 back to back.
A nice addition for Ilona Andrews fans and also nice introduction to new reader to the world of the Innkeeper Chronicles
FYI, this is about 75 percent of the original story and stops a little into Chapter 12 (pg. 157), which on Tapas is at chapter 25.
As a fan of the Innkeeper Chronicles I was excited to get a graphic novel version of the story. I really enjoyed seeing this story brought to life in graphic format. I also think they did a great job at adapting the novel into the graphic novel without losing any context of what is happening. I did think this was the full novel in graphic format, but I think they chose a good spot to stop for volume one. Now I just wish volume two was out so I could continue this version of the story.
Loved it and read it as soon as it was delivered. I loved seeing one of my favorite stories visually and getting a few extra snippets that weren’t in the original story!
First impressions: I just got the paperback in the mail and the artwork is beautiful! I finished it in one sitting and what a fantastic adaptation!
I hope they do the entire series.
My daughter took it from me to read now lol I’ll report back when she finishes it too lol
***** Full review: This is a book I pre-ordered the second I heard about it. I love the Innkeeper series so much, and I was beyond excited to dive into the graphic novel, even though I don’t usually read graphic novels.
First thing I want to talk about is the art. It’s beautiful. It’s perfect, the stylistic choices, the changes in the panels from anime to chibi art (reference is my daughter who is an artist) for emphasis, or for humor. It’s an amazing use of stylistic choice. For someone who isn’t a graphic novel or manga reader, I really enjoyed the art. While I can appreciate some of the mangas out there, I really don’t love some of the styles. I feel like the way this book was adapted allows for people who love graphic novels, and people who are new to the genre to both be happy with the art.
This story begins with Dina, an Innkeeper (she runs an intergalactic bed and breakfast, so to speak), noticing that there have been a lot of dog killings in her neighborhood recently, and she’s beginning to think something is hunting in the area. Something not of the earth. Her newest neighbor Sean Evans is an alpha strain werewolf, a bigger and badder version of werewolves, and she lets him know that something is killing in his territory. He calls her crazy, and she tells him that if he isn’t going to take care of it, she will. Enter lots of flirting, learning that there is more to the world than meets the eye, and that there’s a big giant universe out there. It’s amazing.
The next thing I want to talk about is more of how this book makes me feel. It leaves me feeling as if I don’t want to leave the world. I would up re-reading the entire Innkeeper Chronicles series because I just didn’t want to leave the Innkeeper world.
And then, something amazing happened in my household. My 10 year old saw the book and took it. She read this graphic novel cover-to-cover. Luckily the graphic novel isn’t inappropriate in any way (there are like 3 swear words, and maybe one joke that went over her head). And when she was done, my teenagers each took turns with it. My 19 year old has it at the moment and won’t give it back. I fully expect Lord Arland fan art by the end of this.
The main thing I do want to emphasize is that things have been changed slightly to make the graphic novel smoother, and the ending really is a cliffhanger. Which if you’ve read the novel Clean Sweep, you know what you’re getting into. That being said, the graphic novel ends at about where the halfway point would be in the novel. And it works. I wasn’t frustrated or upset. It really was a good spot to end the story. And I eagerly await the next installment of the graphic novel, because it is just the coolest thing ever,
By all appearances, Dina Demille is perfectly ordinary. She runs a quiet bed and breakfast, which only has a few guests. In reality, she's an Innkeeper – which makes her responsible for unearthly (literally) guests.
As a magical being, Dina is more aware than most of the potential dangers. For example, she knows that the thing stalking her neighborhood isn't just a pack of coyotes or a wildcat. It's something much worse. She'll have to enlist the help of the local werewolf to deal with the problem.
The Innkeeper Chronicles: Clean Sweep The Graphic Novel was originally on Tapas, but the first volume has now been made available for readers hoping for a physical copy.
Review:
I don't know why I was SO excited for the release of The Innkeeper Chronicles: Clean Sweep The Graphic Novel - I read it each week as it updated on Tapas. Yet I was still really excited to get it in my hands and have the chance to re-read it.
Let me tell you, it holds up! I love this world and the series so much, and thus far, I've loved every rendition. That goes for this graphic novel version. The dynamics are fun, quippy, and compelling, while the plot is rich and intense. And let us not forget about the sentient building – the inn is my favorite part.
The artwork is bold and bright. It's a perfect fit for the world. Most of the characters even looked precisely how I pictured them. Yes, there are a couple of exceptions, but I'm pleased with it overall. Beast is especially adorable in this version, for obvious reasons.
What I'm trying to say is that I love this series, and The Innkeeper Chronicles: Clean Sweep The Graphic Novel is great. This is only the first half of the season available on Tapas (unless I totally dreamed of reading the conclusion to this arc), so keep your eyes open for the second half.

A huge fan of this original story, I was a bit sad to see it on Tapas which I didn't really want to purchase. To my delight, the webcomic was created into a paperback graphic novel. This is only volume 1 and it is wonderful. I loved the manga feel of it. As a long time manga lover, this format appealed to me greatly.
I was a little concerned I wouldn't like the reinterpretation. Maybe I wouldn't notice the differences. Surprisingly, I noticed the differences. I guess I have read this original so many times that it was easy for me to detect the differences. I liked them. They were fun. Definitely a different writing voice than Ilona Andrews duo, but still as riveting and engaging.
I loved this first volume and eagerly look forward to the next.
A fun comic of the first book, Clean Sweep! It's not exactly as I imagined it, but a lot can be forgiven... I find it interesting that a few scenes (quite a few, actually) were added to the comic. I heard that it was to meet the minimum episode # requirement on Tapas or something. I can't say that I loved the additions, since it slowed down the story a it, but I'm treating them as bonus deleted scenes.
Great adaptation of a fantastic sci-fi series. I read this as a serial via the Tapas app. I had already read the book, so i knew what was supposed to happen. I thought the artwork was so well done. The only thing i would have changed was to give Dina just the hint of a softer/southern deamenor. Her image is just a little more sharp then i pictured. The rest of the characters were perfect. I absolutely love the Sean/Arland feud.
Basic Plot: Dina runs an intergalactic inn, and had to deal with some aliens causing trouble on Earth.
This adaptation of Clean Sweep brought the novel to life in full color, quite literally. It was faithful to the novel and the descriptions of the characters. I seriously loved how all of them were portrayed. There were some interpretations and additions, all of which added to the original and didn't detract from it. I loved it.
The Innkeeper Chronicles is one of my favourite series and seeing it come to life in this way is special.
Sure, even though the graphic artist is super good, I admit that I’m not fond of the manga-type of characters, but it still makes for a fun read and the story is just as compelling as the original material.
All in all, so far, it does great honour to the book! I’m looking forward to the second part!
I’m a huge fan of the innkeeper series, so I was excited to see it adapted to a graphic novel. I love the story, of course; however, although the art is also very good, it just doesn’t mesh well with the story for me. The disconnect between the art and the story made me enjoy this less than the novels. Of course, this might just be because I read the books first! Anyone starting out with the graphic novel might not have that problem.
I'm not usually a graphic novel reader, but this was pretty good!
The humor in the story is there & they did a good job of editing. One thing & this is my opinion. I think they made Arland too pretty. I think of him as more a Chris Hemsworth face & build. The Arland in this made him look like an elf. He also looked a lot like her dad. Other than that - great job!
I love the Innkeeper series and am waiting with impatience for Klaus’s novel and the resolution of the parents’ inn. This manga was fantastic - the artwork, the characters, dialogue and technical aspect of double tapping to an enlarged read improper order. Looking forward to part 2.
It's so fun getting the chance to enjoy one of my favorite books in so many different formats! I adore the Graphic Audio adaptations, and this graphic novel is a great addition, too! I can't wait for the second volume to come out! (I know it's on Tapas, but I struggle with reading things on a computer.) It's so fun seeing this story come to life.
I had forgotten the book only covered the first half of the story of Clean Sweep. HA are effective with their cliffhangers.
Since I have aphantasia (words do not make images in my mind), seeing Dina and Sean and Arland was cool and I liked the depictions of magic. I'm not crazy about the chibi scenes, but I'm not that familiar with Manga. I liked Sean and Marais. Next volume?
The adaptation of book one is finished, and I think they did a phenomenal job! I loved seeing some of my favorite scenes alongside new characters and other changes that enhanced the story in this visual medium.
It was cute and I enjoyed it. I think I'm very loyal to the original story and so there were parts of the comic I didn't like, but maybe to a new reader, they would seem great. Still, it's a good adaptation and I will recommend it to comic fans.
I have read all of the Innkeeper Chronicles, so I was really excited to see the first book adapted as a graphic novel. It turned out to be only part of the first book, but that just means I can look forward to the next installment. I love this series.
Enh. 3 stars because I still love the story. The bad news is that this is only part of it, which I didn't realize before I bought it. I wouldn't have bought the Kindle edition - very hard to read, and I wouldn't have paid that much for it if I'd known it was only part of the story.
