I am not a huge zombie fan but this concept came up as a challenge in one of the groups that I am in and it was a bit out of my comfort zone so I decided to give it a try. I loved this because it was about a couple struggling with their marriage amidst the start of a zombie apocalypse which in turn actually helped save their marriage. They have to work together, talk things out, and apparently when you think EVERY day could be the end of the world, the sex is amazing!

Every chapter has a title - a HILARIOUS title that came across that much funnier to me due to listening to this on audio. The entire book was a bit of a comedy as much as it was creepy due to the continued, creative ways in which to kill zombies. The couple turns zombie killing into a sport and takes life day by day without getting too serious about it and I love that. There is also constant references to didn't do this or didn't they try that in the movies or on TV - which makes sense because who really is ever prepared for the zombie apocalypse???
So why not five stars? Well, as much as I realize that they are taking it day by day and not taking life too seriously - I guess I was a little disturbed at how frivolous they were about some of the people they had to kill because they were bitten. More so how quickly they got over the fact afterward I guess but it wasn't enough to completely kill the book for me, no pun intended, and if you want a quick, fun book for the Halloween season, I highly recommend it!

OKAY now...onto the good stuff. This is a delicious slow burn hate transformed into love stories also mixed with fated lovers which is another trope that I absolutely love. The heroine is delightfully strong, witty, and extremely bad ass with her magic sucking powers! Reminded me a bit of Rogue of X-Men as she can absorb the magic of others and use it until it wears off.
So she's important and Griffin our warlord Hero, needs her importance and kidnaps her. Okay she's so powerful why doesn't she just run off? BECAUSE there's a magic rope that can only be untied by the owner...Griffin...PERFECT! Makes for the perfect formula and his merry band of fellow warlords are just as delightful to experience - it is a well rounded, fun crew!

Magic, Action, Romance...I wish there were more of these out there that were not bodice rippers honestly. I LOVE these mixes.

Now the not so bad/slight annoying:
Cat's inner monologue gets a little adolescent and also repetitive at times. It is rare so it wasn't enough to make me hate the book, but putting it out there.
The build up to Cat/Griffin is SO well done that the first 70% of the book was just amazing. But then the last 30% of the book wasn't as strong to me and aspects of their relationship felt very forced. It was enough that I am not rushing to read the second one straight away. I WILL I DO love the characters and story enough to read the whole trilogy but I'm not blowing down doors to get to the second one...all I'm saying.

Oh and...(view spoiler)[ Griffin's male love juices are referred to as his "lifeforce" and have magical healing powers for Cat...I found this really...weird? (hide spoiler)]

I fear that all future dragon books will pale in comparison to this one even. A note: I listened to this on audio and the narrator Sophie Eastlake did an AMAZING job. It adds so much to listening on audio when the narrator is exceptionally excellent. She did male voices very well too, which is always a plus as I know that it is not an easy task!
So we have our Hero badass dragon Dragos: [image]
Dragos is a complicated character which is not a bad thing at all. He is a dragon after all. I expected him to be even a tad villainous because of this. We can't expect a predator that can breathe fire and has been alive for thousands of years to be all candy and rainbows. It adds an edginess to his character that I found intriguing.
Then we have Pia our heroine: [image] (I used Greta Garbo simply because she references herself looking like her at least...6 times in the book, lol.)
So Pia steals from a dragon. HORRIBLE idea. If anyone knows anything about dragons it is this: they are the worst pack rats ever and they love their treasure. Every. Single. Item. Even if it is a piece of stomach lint, it is their's and no one else's. You can guess where this is going...
Not to take anything away from the story I will leave the plot outline to that...that's all you need to know. Boom. What I will touch base on is the uniqueness of this book. In the plot description, you know that Pia is a half Wyr, it is a delight to see this mystery unfold from beginning to end.
Pia and Dragos's relationship, albeit only occurring over the span of a few days, still slowly burns and the first time they get together...WOW. [image] Everything you've read about a unique, steamy scene in this book...is true. No Beastiality or anything like that here folks, but it's creative!
Dragos is so protective of Pia and yes he is of course possessive of her because undoubtedly he would see her as one of his treasures. It is not to the point where it becomes disgustingly so, which was a plus. Dragos even admits that he is not an easy guy to get along with. He's a dragon. He has a temper, he gets jealous, he gets possessive. However, Pia handles it with SUCH grace and it just ADORABLE to watch him be calmed by her. When he is in dragon form and the two interact, including him cradling her in his talons to take flight...is also just ADORABLE.
Major kudos here, Thea Harrison. Brilliant dragon story!!

So Georgie is abducted by little green men aliens and kept aboard a ship with a bunch of other chicks where they find out they are soon to be traded into...well slavery, when their ship crash lands on an icy planet where Georgie runs into big blue alien, Vektal. Now he's described as having horns...but for some reason I kept thinking of a more muscular Avatar looking type guy...
Vektal also has ridges in some pretty...convenient areas like his tongue and well...nether regions. Ridged for her pleasure indeed! Just so happens to coincide nicely with her human body! This was just a fun read and had a bout of romance that was not him just out to take her against her will. He possesses a parasite like resonance inside him that will call out to his one true mate, and one true mate only and this adds an extra element instead of just being a creepy abduction, curiosity type story that could be connected to most alien stories.
So if you'd like a quick, fun read, that has a little steam mixed in with a touch of weirdness because its a big, blue, horned alien dude...give it a shot! You usually can't go wrong with Ruby Dixon, it is always sure to be at least fun and steamy no matter what :)

And not in a bad way certainly, hence the 4 star rating. This book was different as in it involves a Demon-summoning "Guardian", a wyvern (humanoid dragon), a talking demon dog, and other interesting paranormal quirks all squished into one, very funny, book.
Occasionally the humor eluded me but for the most part it was top notch, my favorite parts of the book were the interactions between Aisling (the female lead and Guardian) and her summoned demon, Jim who happened to appear in the form of a New Foundland dog. Hilarity ensues and I just love his wit and sarcasm.
The male lead in this story is a green wyvern who is another form of a dragon...no scales, or pointed tail...which made the sex scenes a little less awkward. Speaking of those scenes...those scenes were actually why I made this book a 4 star and not a 5 star because...though he was not an actual dragon, the scenes at first were these weird sex dream type things and she would become consumed with his "fire" and knows that she is his mate because she survives said fire...the concept just didn't bode well with me.
All in all it was a fun paranormal read and was definitely funny! ...more
