I love that Persephone played a more significant role, and I hope we learn more about her.
Blue's emotional evolution in this book was much more enjoyable to read about than her more one-dimensional self in the first book. I look forward to more character development for her and all of the Raven Boys.
What I enjoy most about this book is that it is just fun to read. The Grey Man was a fun diversion that could have many implications for the future.

Thomas Perry was on fire with the importance of ancillary characters. Each character in this book was well done in a way that only a gifted author can bring forth to tell a fully immersive story.
While I think the villains' name was dumb when you found out what was going on, it worked for the rest of the book.

This one translated even better to audio with a faster pacing and more voices narrating. Reading this one 5 years later, I see all kinds of links that I missed the first time and how the overall stories merge and build together even more. Hanna's journal entries with her anime-style drawings are the biggest thing missing from the audio.
The genius planning and story-telling team of Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff are just delightful. As much as I love Kady and AIDAN, this book is overall better. But they are both still awesome.

On the one hand, it could be easy to discount this as a lot of self-indulgence, but on the other hand, it couldn't have been easy to get into the flow of writing that way.
Now that all the major kinks have been worked out from both the author's/reader's side, the story continues with this novel: Becoming the Boogeyman. The formula is there, and I am used to it, and it just worked instantly to suck me back into the adventure and to catch up with the character Richard Chizmar and what is going on now.
Metafiction is a strange beast because it almost needs a cult following. Chizmar copiously fed his in these pages with Easter Eggs and cameos of famous characters, books, authors, locations, and Goodreads review snippets.
It was hilarious to have MC Richard be written as a sensational hate character when the press and fans turned against him after the book world release of the first novel. The fallout was fun, and in the middle of it all, someone was threatening and attempting to kill him.
The way this one ends leaves a massive hole for a potential Book Three to smash through and jump into the fray in the future.
