it was amazing

This was one of the lovliest books I have ever read. I have read many books and seen many movies about World War II, but this one was the best. It was so real. I felt like I knew the characters and I wanted to run over to Guernsey to meet them in person. The stories about their experiences were so touching, not just because they were hard, but because the people were so brave. Horrible things happened to them, but I didn't feel traumatized reading about them. I felt uplifted at their endurance and hope, and love for each other. This book definitely joins the few books on my favorites shelf. (I seem to have a weakness for books written as letters.)

7/26/11 re-read and it was still lovely

Jodi I am so glad to know that you liked it. It's another book club book for me for January. I'm 130th on the waiting list but I have time. Anyway, you've gotten me excited about reading it, so thank you!

Cayenne I just bought it so you can borrow my copy if you want.

Jodi Ooh, I'd love to. Thank you!

Lawrence Yes, I felt the same way about this book. Thanks.

Carol Ann I just finished the Guernsey letters. In my review I said it had the potential to be a new best book. It is difficult to top "To Kill a Mocking Bird", but this is darn close.

Kelley that good, eh? hmmm..

Mell I had just added this to my "to read" list yesterday, and found these comments today. As good as Harper Lee? NPR did a segment on the novel several months ago.

Stephanie Yes, same. I read some of the negative reviews and actually was feeling a little guilty for loving this book so much. But I felt the same way as you -- really hoping to visit Guernsey at some point soon.

Helen I also loved this book! I listed to an audio version and each time a letter was read it was done by a different actor. The result was wonderful. My favorite audio book! I rec. listening to it even if you have read the book. When a story makes you laugh out loud, brings you to tears, and stays with you years after reading it, that is a good book!

Carrie I loved this book too!! Such a wonderful experience reading this book.

Lesley R I agree. I just cannot understand how someone couldn't fall in love with this book!
