Bestselling author Lynn Austin returns with a luminous work of historical fiction set amid the opulence of Gilded Age New York, where three generations of women in one family must reckon with the choices they have made and their hopes for the future.

New York, 1898. The only thing more shocking than Arthur Stanhope III’s unexpected death is the revelation that his will bestows his company―and most of the vast fortune that goes with it―to the nearest male heir, leaving his mother, wife, and daughter nearly impoverished. His widow, Sylvia, quickly realizes she must set aside her grief to ensure their daughter, Adelaide, is launched into society as soon as the appropriate mourning period passes. If Sylvia can find a wealthy husband for Addy before anyone realizes they’re practically destitute, there will be little disruption to the lifestyle they’re accustomed to.

Sylvia’s mother-in-law, Junietta, believes their life could use a little disruption. She has watched Sylvia play her role as a society wife, as Junietta once did, despite what it cost them both. Junietta vows to give her granddaughter the power to choose a path beyond what society expects.

But for Addy to have that chance, both mother and grandmother must first confront painful truths about their own choices. Only in bringing their secrets to light can they hope to reshape their family inheritance into a legacy more fulfilling than they ever dared dream.

For many years, Lynn Austin nurtured a desire to write but frequent travels and the demands of her growing family postponed her career. When her husband's work took Lynn to Bogota, Colombia, for two years, she used the B.A. she'd earned at Southern Connecticut State University to become a teacher. After returning to the U.S., the Austins moved to Anderson, Indiana, Thunder Bay, Ontario, and later to Winnipeg, Manitoba.

It was during the long Canadian winters at home with her children that Lynn made progress on her dream to write, carving out a few hours of writing time each day while her children napped. Lynn credits her early experience of learning to write amid the chaos of family life for her ability to be a productive writer while making sure her family remains her top priority.

Extended family is also very important to Austin, and it was a lively discussion between Lynn, her mother, grandmother (age 98), and daughter concerning the change in women's roles through the generations that sparked the inspiration for her novel Eve's Daughters.

Along with reading, two of Lynn's lifelong passions are history and archaeology. While researching her Biblical fiction series, Chronicles of the Kings, these two interests led her to pursue graduate studies in Biblical Backgrounds and Archaeology through Southwestern Theological Seminary. She and her son traveled to Israel during the summer of 1989 to take part in an archaeological dig at the ancient city of Timnah. This experience contributed to the inspiration for her novel Wings of Refuge.

Lynn resigned from teaching to write full-time in 1992. Since then she has published 27 novels. Eight of her historical novels, Hidden Places, Candle in the Darkness, Fire by Night, A Proper Pursuit, and Until We Reach Home have won Christy Awards in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, and 2009 for excellence in Christian Fiction. Fire by Night was also one of only five inspirational fiction books chosen by Library Journal for their top picks of 2003, and All She Ever Wanted was chosen as one of the five inspirational top picks of 2005. Lynn's novel Hidden Places has been made into a movie for the Hallmark Channel, starring actress Shirley Jones. Ms Jones received a 2006 Emmy Award nomination for her portrayal of Aunt Batty in the film.

All My Secrets by Lynn Austin was a captivating historical fiction novel. I was drawn into the plot immediately. The characters were all well developed and very believable. The women in All My Secrets were all strong, resilient, intelligent, respected and kind. All the women were members of the wealthy and privileged Stanhope family. There were three generations of Stanhope women that lived under the same roof. They all resided in the Stanhope mansion located in New York City. In the later years of the 1890’s, the Stanhope women received devastating news. Arthur Stanhope III or A.B. as everyone knew him as, had died an untimely and tragic death. A.B. was Sylvia’s husband, Addie’s father and Junietta’s son. The lives of these three Stanhope women were about to change drastically.

After the funeral for A.B. was held, the Stanhope women learned about the contents and conditions of A.B.’s will. All of the Stanhope fortune would be passed on to the next male Stanhope heir. A.B.’s will had left almost nothing to his wife and daughter. The stipulations of the Will was decided upon years ago by the first Arthur Stanhope. It had never been changed or challenged in all the years after it was mandated. The terms of the will left Sylvia and Addie with the mansion, the family yacht and a small monetary inheritance. It was going to be hard to hold on to the Stanhope mansion without the income from the Stanhope business.

Addie was at the age that if circumstances were different, she would be attending dances and dinners with her friends. Most of Addie’s friends were hoping to find a suitable and preferably rich husband so that they could continue to live the posh lifestyle they were accustomed to. It wouldn’t take long before Addie’s and Sylvia’s friends learned about their new financial circumstances. For all intents and purposes, the Stanhope women were broke. Sylvia, Addie’s mother, felt it was her duty to help Addie secure a husband before their circumstances were revealed to all. Junietta, Addie’s grandmother, thought that this was the perfect opportunity for Addie to decide what kind of life she wanted to lead. Of course, Sylvia believed that Addie was destined to live the same type of life she had led before A.B. died. Both women, Junietta and Sylvia tried to influence Addie and persuade her to choose the life they saw her living. Addie was confused by the mixed messages she was getting from both her grandmother and mother. What did they expect from her? Addie did not want to disappoint either one of them. They were both the most important people in her life.

Over the course of All My Secrets, both Junietta’s and Sylvia’s pasts were revealed. Addie listened to the stories that both her grandmother and mother told her about their younger years and everything that had happened to them. She was surprised to learn about all the secrets they had both hidden from each other and everyone else. Addie knew that everything that her mother and grandmother had experienced and lived through had made them stronger and more secure women. What type of life would Addie decide to lead now that she knew what she knew about her grandmother and mother?

All My Secrets by Lynn Austin was such an incredible story. I didn’t want it to end. The touch of romance was sweet and only added to the story. I listened to the audiobook that was very well narrated by Sarah Zimmerman. All My Secrets was told from alternating POV’s from the three Stanhope women. It alternated between Junietta’s and Sylvia’s past and then returned to the present. All My Secrets was the first book that I had the opportunity to read by Lynn Austin but now that I have discovered her I will seek out other books that she had written. I really enjoyed listening to All My Secrets by Lynn Austin and recommend it very highly.

Thank you to Recorded Books for allowing me to listen to the audiobook of All My Secrets by Lynn Austin through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

New York, 1898. When Arthur Stanhope III dies unexpectedly, his will reveals that his fortune, company and holiday home in Rhode Island will be passed on to the closed male heir and a clause his grandfather made years ago and he couldn’t change it.

This leaves his mother Junietta, wife Sylvia, and daughter Adelaide in a precarious position, their finances in a mess and they have wait to hear how bad it is from the lawyers. Sylvia, knows she doesn’t have time to waste to ensure Adelaide is launched into society as soon as mourning period passes and quickly find a rich husband. Before anyone in their social circle realizes they’re practically broke, as once this is revealed and they will not be invited to the right places and not be able to live the life their accustomed to. The Gilded Age, in New York lineage, prestige, and coming from old money means everything, and it opens doors that would otherwise be slammed in your face and the women have no time to grieve their loss.

Sylvia’s mother-in-law, Junietta, believes their life needs to change and she wants her granddaughter to make her own decisions and not do what expected of her without understanding she has choices. Junietta is determined to share with Adelaide how she ended up being married to Arthur Stanhope II and her wisdom. At first Sylvia is horrified with her mother-in-law’s plan and despite being married to her son for years and they’re not close and why dredge up the past? Junietta won’t be swayed, she doesn’t believe young ladies should be sheltered from unpleasant situations and events, and it’s like living in a perfect bubble and she want's Adelaide to have a full life and be loved.

As Junietta shares what happened to her fifty years ago, it’s painful and Sylvia discovers she didn’t really know her mother-in-law and she changes her mind and she reveals the tragic events that occurred in her childhood.

Adelaide is taken on a journey, around areas of New York she has never seen by her grandmother, she meets new people and from all walks of life, her traveling companion is a young lawyer Howard Forsythe and he's the son of a preacher.

I received a copy of All My Secrets by Lynn Austin from Edelweiss Plus and Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for an honest review. A story about three generations of women in one family, at different stages of their lives, how they grow closer together as the secrets two of them having been keeping are revealed. It’s better to make a difference in other people’s lives and those who are less fortunate, it’s a far greater legacy than houses, possessions, wealth and social status.

A narrative about reflection and we all commit forgivable sins and you don't need to be religious to understand the authors message in her enlightening and well written book.

“This is our chance to look closely at our lives and decide what’s important and what isn’t. We can dream new dreams, look for new goals, pursue new adventures. You no longer have to live a life of mindless indulgence, conforming to a dull, unimaginative society.”

Easily in the top five of my 2024 reads, All My Secrets is an intergenerational saga of three Stanhope women; Junietta, a grandmother; Sylvia Grace, a mother; and 19-year-old Adelaide, her daughter. Austin rapidly engrosses readers with her tale of family secrets that spans the American Revolution, the Gold Rush, the Civil War, and the Gilded Age.

I loved the 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 and seeing how it was woven throughout the generations. It gave me pause when I saw how Austin had worded it - “missing the mark.” One thing that was very clear to me was that when characters held on to grudges, nursed them, and coaxed them into bitterness, the destructive forces played out in each character and the generations following. Austin’s reminder to forgive and share our journey with loved ones really resonated with me. I loved her exploration of the benefits of learning from experience. I’m a teacher and BIG on reminding students that mistakes are really ‘learning experiences,’ but I’m not so eager to work it into my personal life!

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭:

✔️our choices and the ripple effects
✔️Breaking free of the mold society tries to cast for us
✔️unearthing skeletons in the closet
✔️Change - benefits and disadvantages
✔️Freedom to love and the joy of being loved in return
✔️Freedom from expectations
✔️Moving forward while sanding off grief’s painful edges
✔️Waring of settling for mindless conformity
✔️Warning about settling for contentment instead of happiness
✔️Learning to appreciate that we are God’s one-of-a-kind masterpiece
✔️Price we pay for sin
✔️Putting today’s trials in perspective
✔️Responsibility of wealth

❣️how Junietta kept putting off her daughter and granddaughter’s questions! She always seemed tired when they were looking for answers!
❣️The examination of what it means to be ‘lost’ and have a “legacy worth leaving”

𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒎𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈? I don’t leave the house without telling my husband how much I love him.

𝑭𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝒒𝒖𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒔:

❤️“Well, you can’t prevent change. It’s part of life. This cane was once an acorn, then a tree, then a stick of lumber. Now it serves an entirely new role, propping up an elderly lady. Its usefulness came at the cost of a great deal of chopping and cutting and sanding, and we always abhor those painful processes, don’t we?”

❤️“When you dare to love someone, you’ll always risk the pain of loss. A broken heart, like a broken leg, will heal in time. You’ll dance again someday. But the greater your love, the greater your limp will always be.”

I’m always swept away to another time and place with Austin’s masterful narratives; they’re so richly researched and inspiring, and so vividly painted with words. I’m in awe of her talent and her ability to encourage me to reach for my bible. I appreciate being part of the launch team and receiving a copy of this ARC from Tyndale House Publishers and NetGalley to review.

Loved this book. It follows three generations of Stanhope women. They married Stanhope men who are quite wealthy. The Father of the second generation passes away suddenly and prematurely leaving only a mansion and yacht. The original will terms were set by the grandfather, who allowed only for male heirs. No cash, so by their standards, these ladies are destitute. The original solution is to find a rich suitor for the daughter but she’s in mourning for 6 months. The grandmother wants her granddaughter to be her own person, figure out what God’s will for her life is and marry for love. The Mother wants to maintain their lifestyle out of misguided pride. The granddaughter realizes she can’t please both. During the mourning period, the grandmother and Mother reveal their past secrets and why each of them feels so strongly.

Lynn Austin always writes outstanding stories that draw me in from the beginning. I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning when I got to the final 200 pages so I could see how this would end. The grandmother has a very strong faith and desire to help those less fortunate. Her working faith eventually factors in with the Mother and granddaughter. Several surprises. Of course there are many sad moments and many kind, loving moments. Lynn Austin’s books are always rich in details and I love that, too. They also make me think about how I’m practicing my faith. Are my priorities straight? Is God the center of my life?

I highly recommend this book. I’ve read several books by this author and have many to read or reread. I was given an ARC by NetGalley and the publisher to review honestly.

All My Secrets - Lynn Austin - 5 Stars
BLOG REVIEW POST HERE.

All My Secrets by Lynn Austin is a multigenerational story of 3 women that explores first loves, grief, high society lifestyle, history, the Christian faith and the essence of what matters most in life. I highly recommend this book as I was fully immersed in the story and characters.

Set during the Gilded Age in New York, we see the strength of the Stanhope women following the passing of Arthur Stanhope. Left uncertain of their future paths, Junietta, Sylvia, and Adelaide grapple with the ramifications of Arthur's will and the looming uncertainty surrounding their family's estate. As they navigate through the aftermath, family secrets begin to unravel, shedding light on their intertwined history.

I absolutely loved this story. I was very invested in the audiobook narration and learning about Sylvia and Junietta's past. We see the beauty of the Gospel in this story several times as our characters grapple with their past decisions, mistakes made and contemplate future choices. Additionally, there is a central theme of helping the poor and giving to charity, as well as discussions surrounding wealth, the dynamics of marriage, and the choice between marrying for financial security or for love.

Lynn Austin's storytelling is undeniable and I am thankful to have received an advanced reader copy to honestly read and review. I will be purchasing this one for my collection as it's one of my favorite books of 2024!

Lynn Austin flawlessly blends history, family dynamics, and the Christian faith in All My Secrets, elevating it to the pinnacle of storytelling. This is a heartfelt endorsement for readers seeking an extraordinary and spiritually enriching read!

The narrative unfolds as a rich tapestry, transcending the ordinary and immersing readers in the captivating world of Gilded Age splendor across generations. Harmonious chords resonate on every page, skillfully revealing the transformative journey of the Stanhope family through the eyes of the three main characters. It's a superb story for those desiring a multigenerational experience intertwined with profound truths of the Christian faith.

All My Secrets methodically illustrates resilience across three generations of Stanhope women as the sudden departure of Arthur Stanhope III propels Junietta, Sylvia, and Adelaide into a tumultuous journey, unraveling hidden family secrets.

At its core, the novel reaches deep into the transformative alchemy of God's love, forgiveness, and sovereignty. Lynn Austin's talented writing illuminates the complexities of each character, emphasizing the extraordinary impact of Christian faith on individuals and families.

The storyline undergoes a remarkable shift, as characters navigate the realms of everyday struggles, faith, redemption, and God's intricate plan. Junietta's resolute determination becomes a testament to Christian virtues and obedience, while Sylvia's inner turmoil transforms into a battleground where she learns to trust in God's control and surrender to His guidance.

The intergenerational dialogue becomes a tender exploration of grace, forgiveness, and the blessings of obedience, adding intense depth for a spiritually enriching experience.

The Gospel is presented clearly multiple times! Here is one of a multitude of quotes that this reader loves: “Simply follow Jesus. He’s always going in the right direction. And He asks only two things of us. First, that we love God with all our heart. Putting Him first in everything we do, letting Him direct our life, worshipping Him alone instead of money or success or fame. And second, that we love our neighbor as we love ourself. Not turning away from someone in need. Forgiving people who have hurt you. Doing the loving thing, even at a cost to ourselves.”

Lynn Austin's portrayal of Gilded Age New York is impeccable, serving as a fascinating stage for characters to live out genuine faith. All My Secrets completely captivates with an insightful message of authentic faith, resilience, and strength found in God's boundless love and grace. The characters' spiritual growth beautifully demonstrates the transformative power of God’s grace and the beauty of His plan. Storytelling doesn’t get any better than this!

I received an eARC for All My Secrets from Tyndale House Publishers through NetGalley and a paperback edition via Tyndale House. I am not required to write a positive review nor paid to do so. This is my honest and unbiased review. My thoughts and opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on this story’s amazingly excellent content, ensuring transparency and reliability.

This was my first Lynn Austin book, and I absolutely loved it! “All My Secrets” is a Gilded Age novel with all of the Downton Abbey vibes. Need I say more to compel you?

This beautiful book follows three generations of women as they navigate life after a death in the family and an unfortunate will and testament leaves them without the fortune they once had and little future prospects.

The book has multiple POVs as well as multiple timelines as the novel provides glimpses into the former lives of the two eldest women: the mother and the grandmother. Both women have been living their life with many secrets that their daughter/granddaughter was never privy to. Now, they decide, is the time to begin sharing about their pasts. Will it change the future for the youngest Stanhope woman?

I loved the deep faith themes of this book and how beautifully the gospel was woven through. I absolutely fell in love with the characters in this story and did not want it to end!

I couldn’t recommend this upcoming release enough. If you love Christian historical fiction, you need to read this book! If you haven’t read any Christian historical fiction, this would be a great first book to pick up.

Highly, highly recommend!

Thank you to #netgalley and @tyndalehouse for my free e-copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

I love Lynn Austin’s books, her stories always resonate with me and often I learn something historical I never knew before. This book really made me ponder the futility of striving to live up to others expectations who don’t truly love you.

With the death of Adelaide’s father, her family’s security from wealth and high society threatens to crumble around them.

I loved the fiesty Junietta. She had me laughing and added the perfect touch of wisdom and humor. I also loved she didn’t feel the need to explain herself, instead she radiated a humble confidence.

This novel is told through the POV of three women. The Grandma Junietta, who believes strongly in marrying for love. The mother Sylvia, who believes maintaining reputation and status is very important. And finally the daughter, Adelaide who feels stuck in the middle not fully believing either is completely right. She feels pulled to please both, but feels she can’t.

I learned about the people who chose to sail around South America to get to California for the gold rush. I always assumed they traveled by land across America. Some sailed! I love learning Fascinating tidbits like that.

I love how Lynn Austin dives into the stark contrast of wealth and poverty in many of her novels, this one included. And I also appreciated the theme of thinking for yourself instead of doing what’s always been done or what you’ve been told to do. Purpose, wealth and poverty were explored as well as themes of forgiveness and the consequences of bitterness and revenge.

I really loved the revelation Sylvia came to at the end.

If you love historical novels set in the gilded age, multiple POV’s, and strong faith threads, this one is for you!

Favorite quotes:

“He believed his palace would give him status and power, never realizing that character and integrity are worth more than anything money can buy.”

“My parents raised me to believe that God has a purpose for everyone’s life. We’ll find the most satisfaction in life when we discover it and live it.”

“You know beautiful houses filled with possessions mean nothing if a home lacks love.”

“The Almighty has a way of bringing good things from our sorrows, if we let Him.”

“I’m starting to see that our steps can be guided by Someone with an even better plan than our own.”

All My Secrets by Lynn Austin is set during the gilded age and features women of three generations within the same family. There is Mimi Junie Stanhope, daughter-in-law Sylvia Stanhope and granddaughter Adelaide Stanhope. When Sylvia's husband passes away unexpectedly, the Stanhope ladies all must embrace changes in their lives.

I have struggled to write this review because I enjoyed All My Secrets so much. I like how well the stories flowed from one woman to the next. I enjoyed each of their stories and watching them change and grow through their grief. I especially liked how well woven the faith element was in this story. I also enjoyed one of the young men that Adelaide dated. I liked how the women worked to solve their problems. Initially, they weren't working together but as time went on things changed between them.

In All My Secrets, there were themes of forgiveness and redemption, overcoming challenges and making the best of circumstances, dealing with life changes and learning to communicate between generations. I enjoyed the developing relationship with Addy and a certain young man. This is one of my top reads of this year so far. I highly recommend it. It was a fast and enjoyable read. The story had good flow and good characterization.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.

Thank you, Netgalley and RB Media, for an ARC of this book! The opinions in this review are entirely my own!

Wow, that was a crazy ride! I loved the three different timelines and how Lynn Austin transitioned between them! This book was absolutely captivating, and I didn't want to take breaks to do some adulting! I just wanted to keep reading! I loved the character development, the story, the way the story progressed, absolutely everything! While it is still early in the year, I know this book will end up in my top 10 of 2023!

Lynn Austin has written yet another stellar novel! This one takes place during the gilded age. When AB Stanhope dies suddenly, leaving 3 generations of women to fend for themselves in the massive Stanhope mansion, long-held secrets come out as Grandmother Junietta and Mother Sylvia have very differing opinions on what Adelaide's future should hold. Told in 3 distinct voices, Adelaide learns the history of the women who have raised her, along with all their secrets.

While primarily a character-driven story, there was enough of a plot that it satisfied my plot-loving heart, fully earning the 5 stars. There was a full range of emotions that happened in the reading of this book - joy, sorrow, rage, vindication, and satisfaction. There was a solid faith thread in the story as repentance and loving one's neighbor were resounding themes. And the character growth and development were second to none. I went from not caring a whit about the characters in the beginning to being emotionally invested in the outcome of their individual stories in the end and cheering for their outcomes. Though this had some heavier moments and themes, the story ended very satisfactorily and I enjoyed taking the journey with these 3 ladies as they trudged through the past into the present in order to make a better future for themselves. If you enjoy inspirational women's fiction with a touch of romance, this is one I would heartily recommend.

Special thanks to Tyndale House Publishers and the author for an advance copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

Over the last few months, I’ve been eagerly anticipating reading this book. Lynn Austin has long been one of my favorite authors, so whenever I see one of her new titles coming out, I do my best to get my hands on it. This one took me a little while to pick up before I was able to slip it into my reading rotation, but I started it with high anticipation. I’m not sure I’ve ever read a Gilded Age novel before, so that, too, added to my excitement when I picked this up.

Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me. Despite elements that I genuinely enjoyed, I found a good part of this book disappointing. Much of this book fell into the telling (not showing) writing style, and throughout the story, I struggled to connect to the characters. I did LOVE the grandmother; her perspective and old-lady tendencies (especially as regards her ever-present and ever-useful cane!) were a delight to read. But Sylvia and Adelaide were characters I never felt like I got to know properly; they felt much more reactive than proactive.

The historical narrative scenes were somewhat interesting, but I realized I was having trouble with those, too, when a tragedy happened, and my reaction was “Okay, so what?” Normally, I would have expected that scene to be a real gut punch, but it wasn’t…and that was disappointing, because that’s when I realized I couldn’t care less about the characters. I feel like if this book had been written as a split-time novel (rather than lots of flashbacks and narration), it may have been a stronger story.

I was also a little disappointed at the faith element in the story; the main thrust of the book seemed to be that we ought to follow our heart and marry for love instead of monetary gain, and there was no real mention of looking for the Lord’s guidance and blessing in building these relationships.

As I said, there were parts of the story I really enjoyed. The grandmother was a lot of fun, and I found the perspective on some of the major historical events (the Gold Rush, the Civil War, etc.) to be fascinating to read about. I love it when I can get to see different and new aspects of historical events I’m familiar with in the fiction I read! If you don’t mind books that are a little slower-paced, this might be a book you’d enjoy; ultimately, it wasn’t for me. I’m looking forward to Lynn Austin’s next novel; hopefully, that will be more down my alley!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book, and this is my honest opinion of it.

This novel, set during the gilded age, was about three generations of women. A grandmother, her daughter-in-law and her granddaughter.

Each of them shared parts of their lives and loves.

One of the women had a moment where she humbly repented and came to the Lord. Her life throughout the story showed the fruits of that moment and how God used her to teach others wisely. I loved that.

I love how God works throughout our life, even when we don’t see it.

This was another wonderful read from author Lynn Austin. I highly recommend it!

Set in the gilded age of New York City, this novel follows the three Stanhope women as they cope with grief. The novel is exceptionally well written, with each character having a distinctive and different voice. With three different generations represented, women of different ages will find someone to connect with in the story. I found myself connecting with both Addy (the granddaughter) and Sylvia (the mother) - which is true to stage of life I am in (situated between those two characters stages of life).
4.5 stars.
A lovely read.

Thank you Lynn Austin, NetGalley, and Tyndale House for this gifted book!*

Synopsis: “Juniette believed that Sylvia and Adelaide could both fly freely on their own if they could find the courage to escape from their gilded cages.” The Stanhope women may be drastically separated in age, but the loss of son, husband, and father threatens to separate every other connection they may have had. As each of these women wrestle with the realities of being alone in the early 1900s, they realize life may just look different than what they’d always planned. Gone are the parties, wealth, high class society. But is that really all there is to life? What about faith, hope, and love? In a story of struggles, secrets, and strengths, the women must come face to face with the problems of the past and the possibilities of a different future.

Analysis: As a long time fan, I’m so glad to say Lynn Austin does it again! In this Gilded Age novel, you’ll explore the struggles of women in this time period from three different perspectives: grandmother, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. I loved the unique perspective of each voice in this novel and the family tension with each woman. The history is well-researched and the characters well-developed. As I flew through the pages, I loved the vivid imagery of the mansions and other places they visited. I found myself wishing I could travel and see the locations in person (maybe someday🤞). In signature Lynn Austin fashion, you’ll see the characters come face to face with difficulty, but you’ll find the beauty and truth of biblical hope.

With the backdrop of the Gilded Age, right before the turn of the century. Three women spanning three generations hold onto one another when an inheritance that should come to them goes to a male relative. As they contemplate how to save their opulent house and lavish lifestyle, secrets of the past unfold.

I so enjoyed this book. When the two older women share their past and their secrets, I was hooked and needed to know what was going to happen.

There was so much wonderful faith content. Learning to forgive others and yourself. Finding purpose in your life by working for the Lord. Themes of helping the poor and downtrodden. Themes of wealth with no purpose vs wealth with purpose to use it to help others. This book was mainly about women marrying rich men to keep their wealth and status. And conversations between the women about finding a good, faithful husband who may not be rich vs. just marrying a man to be rich and entitled. It was in that time period where that happened all the time, but do we go with what everyone is doing or what is good and right?

I highly recommend it! 4.5 stars. I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley. All opinions were my own.

"This house cost Arthur millions of dollars, and he didn't even blink. He believed his palace would give him status and power, never realizing that character and integrity are worth more than anything money can buy. And poor Arthur never knew love. Can you imagine living your entire lifetime without ever being loved or giving love in return?"

This is the story of three generations of Stanhope women, set during the Gilded Age. The patriarch of the family dies suddenly, leaving them to navigate society, the family business, their family charitable foundation, and all of the bills having never been prepared for such tasks. It is a story of love and loss, secrets and truth-telling, money and power, hope and redemption, and most importantly...trust and faith.

The only reason I deducted a half a star is because there were a few parts that were a little unrealistic and cheesy. However, they were fleeting moments and nothing that truly detracted from the overall theme. I felt Austin did a wonderful job in portraying this time period and the struggles of the women who had no rights of their own.

"If we remember that death comes to all of us, we'll pay better attention to how we live."

This is a beautifully written story about family, the secrets they hide and the legacy they leave. Ms. Austin pens some absolutely memorable characters in this multi-generational story of three women. Grieving the loss of A.B. Stanhope, his mother, wife and daughter find that their life will change drastically. The author probes beyond the glittering facade of the Gilded Age as she reveals its shallow and somewhat shaky foundation of its elite.

Ms. Austin has crafted memorable characters, and slowly reveals the strengths and vulnerabilities of each as they are challenged to forge a new path. My favorite character is Junietta. Her strong faith shines through her actions. She is not afraid to challenge Sylvia and Addy to break out of their 'gilded cage'. Junietta slowly reveals the secrets of her past, which encourages the other women to gradually look at the world differently. I loved the faith thread of redemption that is woven seamlessly throughout her story.

As I read the last page, I realized this was not just an entertaining story. It is powerful, one that will challenge readers to reflect on their own life choices and legacy.

In "All My Secrets," Lynn Austin once again proves herself as one of the premier authors in the Christian publishing sphere, delivering a luminous narrative that transcends mere storytelling to become an immersive experience. Austin's unparalleled ability to craft unique, emotive narratives not only captivates readers but also gently guides them toward deeper reflections on faith. Set against the opulent backdrop of Gilded Age New York, this tale of three generations of women confronting their pasts is a masterful exploration of sin, repentance, redemption, and love.

The narrative unfolds through the distinct perspectives of Sylvia, her mother-in-law Junietta, and daughter Adelaide, offering a rich tapestry of experiences and insights. The revelations of past sins, including extramarital affairs and vengeful desires, are handled with grace and depth, pointing readers toward the redemptive power of God. Junietta's journey, in particular, stands as a profound testament to the transformative work of Christ in one's life.

Austin's story extols the significant impact that women of faith can wield on their families and society at large. Through the trials and tribulations of Sylvia and Junietta, readers witness the powerful influence of steadfast faith and the potential for personal legacies to be reshaped into something more fulfilling and God-honoring.

Adding to the novel's allure is Sarah Zimmerman's narration, which elevates the experience to new heights. Zimmerman's velvety smooth voice, coupled with her crystal-clear diction, brings the characters and their emotions to life, making for an exceptionally engaging listen.

Highly recommended for enthusiasts of historical Christian fiction. It’s a celebration of the courage to face the past, the strength found in faith, and the beauty of a future rewritten by God's love. This audiobook is a must-listen, promising to leave a lasting impression on both longtime admirers of Austin's work and those new to her captivating storytelling.

A powerful story spanning three generations of Stanhopes, about the secrets that have the power to entrap or to set free.

After the sudden death of Arthur Stanhope III, Adelaide finds herself torn in two different directions. The obligation to marry into money to maintain their lifestyle, or to take hold of the freedom to pave her own way. Her mother arranges stylish parties to attract eligible suitors, while her grandmother shows her the work that she has been doing with her charitable foundation, while sharing the secrets that have implications into the present.

A powerful story of grace and the power of God's redemption, set in the Gilded Age. Told from the perspectives of each of the three women, I loved how they grew closer through sharing their secrets and hopes for the future while helping Adelaide find her own path.

Howard was one of my favorite characters, a confident young man in all the ways that truly matter, with a heart for others, and a way of quietly pointing to the Lord. Junietta is also quite a character, I loved her honesty, wisdom, and genuine love for others.

Overall, a beautifully unfolding and compelling tale, with a powerful message of hope. A memorable read that will stick with me for years to come, highly recommend!

This was wonderful!! Full of Biblical wisdom and themes such as forgiveness, morality, love, generosity, and courage, to name a few, this was a standout book for me because of the rich faith content.

I loved the multiple POVs, the repeated lessons on the Gospel and salvation, and Junietta was my fav! I wish she were my Grandma! Her honesty and willingness to leave a legacy of value and encourage Adeline in her own dreams was awesome! I loved her bold personality as well.

This book also had great revolutionary ideas with the view that women are more than just fashion plates and housewives, and marriage should always be for love. The way these women used their biggest secrets to build up their family instead of divide them was so inspiring, and I wish more families saw secrets that way.
I also enjoyed the detailed settings of the Gilded Age.
This novel also featured the harmful affects of revenge and the love of money and greed. Seeing all three women's stories come full circle at the end was so perfect! May you remember that Christ came to save the world not condemn it, and to follow His plans for you while loving Him and others and forgiving them as He so generously forgives us in gratitude to Him. ❤

All My Secrets by Lynn Austin is a wonderful historical fiction that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I have read several books by Ms. Austin and always have enjoyed her way of crafting characters that have depth, are searching for answers, and are trying to find their way in their own lives. Despite the circumstances and the time difference, she is able to connect us readers to them in ways that a lot of authors cannot.

This book has all of those elements as well as a bit of mystery and romance set at the end of the @9th century in New York. This novel centers around a multi-generational concept revolving around the women within a family and their own struggles, choices, lives, and outcomes. It makes for an enjoyable experience.

A riveting, stellar piece of art form that captivated me from the beginning. I loved the three women and how their personalities and perspectives were each shown as they shared their secrets and hearts. I found myself sobbing over Junietta and the heartbreak she endured as well as her road to forgiveness. Sylvia seemed hardened but as you learned her story and see the work that God is unfolding in her life you will find understanding. Adelaide is a young woman who is a people pleaser but as secrets unfold she finds herself on a journey to becoming her own person. I loved everything about this story and although I wanted to binge read I took my time to savor it and peel back the multilayered characters and allowed myself to be swept away to the Gilded Age of New York City. The lessons learned and life experiences of family along with the spiritual journeys makes for a satisfying read that leaves you wanting more. This will definitely be on my favorites list.

Lynn Austin is a master storyteller. In All My Secrets, she take us to the gilded age where three generations of the Stanhope women are facing the loss of family and fortune. Sylvia, the widow and mother, wants to launch Adelaide into society as soon as possible so she can marry a rich man. Junietta, the grandmother, wants more for her granddaughter than a loveless society marriage. Both of these women must face the choices they made before Addy can have a chance of choosing her own path. It's is interesting to see the older women confront their past and grow as a result.

This was a wonderful read! Lynn Austin is an author on my "If she writes it, I'll read it" list. All My Secrets does not disappoint.

All my secrets by Lynn Austin is a great historical fiction that I enjoyed.
I have read many books by Miss Austin and I have always enjoyed her books. I have very few Christian riders that are my favorite, and she is at the top of my list. Her characters have depth, and I love how she intertwines God into everything and Jesus without it seeming to unrealistic.
This novel tells a story of three mothers. So it’s a generational story. I believe she did this before with eves daughters, and that was one of my favorite books and I love the generational reads. I recommend this read I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

For more than 20 years I've been reading books by Lynn Austin, I count her as one of my favorite authors. In that time I've read many of her books but my favorite was always the first book of hers that I ever read. "All My Secrets" just pushed that book to #2.

"All My Secrets" is tells the stories of three generations of women during the Gilded Age in America. Junietta (grandmother), Sylvia (mother), and Adelaide (daughter). Junietta is Sylvia's mother-in-law and the relationship between them is an interesting one.. they aren't close, but they also aren't enemies. They seem to lead very different lives even though they are women of means and live in the same home. As the story unfolds, we begin to figure out WHY they are so different and how those differences influence their decisions. They come together and share their stories (with some encouragement from Junietta) as Adelaide is coming of age and the death of her father will force her to make some very difficult decisions.

Although I am about half of Junietta's age, I found that I could truly identify with her as the matriarch of the family. She and Sylvia want what every mother wants... a good life for their children/grandchildren. If you enjoy historical fiction please do yourself a big favor and add this book to your TBR pile! You'll love traveling back in time to New York in the Gilded Age.
