Although she writes under the pen name J.K. Rowling, pronounced like rolling, her name when her first Harry Potter book was published was simply Joanne Rowling. Anticipating that the target audience of young boys might not want to read a book written by a woman, her publishers demanded that she use two initials, rather than her full name. As she had no middle name, she chose K as the second initial of her pen name, from her paternal grandmother Kathleen Ada Bulgen Rowling. She calls herself Jo and has said, "No one ever called me 'Joanne' when I was young, unless they were angry." Following her marriage, she has sometimes used the name Joanne Murray when conducting personal business. During the Leveson Inquiry she gave evidence under the name of Joanne Kathleen Rowling. Rowling was born to Peter James Rowling, a Rolls-Royce aircraft engineer, and Anne Rowling (née Volant), on 31 July 1965 in Yate, Gloucestershire, England, 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Bristol. Her mother Anne was half-French and half-Scottish. Her parents first met on a train departing from King's Cross Station bound for Arbroath in 1964. They married on 14 March 1965. Her mother's maternal grandfather, Dugald Campbell, was born in Lamlash on the Isle of Arran. Her mother's paternal grandfather, Louis Volant, was awarded the Croix de Guerre for exceptional bravery in defending the village of Courcelles-le-Comte during the First World War.
Rowling's sister Dianne was born at their home when Rowling was 23 months old. The family moved to the nearby village Winterbourne when Rowling was four. She attended St Michael's Primary School, a school founded by abolitionist William Wilberforce and education reformer Hannah More. Her headmaster at St Michael's, Alfred Dunn, has been suggested as the inspiration for the Harry Potter headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
As a child, Rowling often wrote fantasy stories, which she would usually then read to her sister. She recalls that: "I can still remember me telling her a story in which she fell down a rabbit hole and was fed strawberries by the rabbit family inside it. Certainly the first story I ever wrote down (when I was five or six) was about a rabbit called Rabbit. He got the measles and was visited by his friends, including a giant bee called Miss Bee." At the age of nine, Rowling moved to Church Cottage in the Gloucestershire village of Tutshill, close to Chepstow, Wales. When she was a young teenager, her great aunt, who Rowling said "taught classics and approved of a thirst for knowledge, even of a questionable kind," gave her a very old copy of Jessica Mitford's autobiography, Hons and Rebels. Mitford became Rowling's heroine, and Rowling subsequently read all of her books.
Rowling has said of her teenage years, in an interview with The New Yorker, "I wasn’t particularly happy. I think it’s a dreadful time of life." She had a difficult homelife; her mother was ill and she had a difficult relationship with her father (she is no longer on speaking terms with him). She attended secondary school at Wyedean School and College, where her mother had worked as a technician in the science department. Rowling said of her adolescence, "Hermione [a bookish, know-it-all Harry Potter character] is loosely based on me. She's a caricature of me when I was eleven, which I'm not particularly proud of." Steve Eddy, who taught Rowling English when she first arrived, remembers her as "not exceptional" but "one of a group of girls who were bright, and quite good at English." Sean Harris, her best friend in the Upper Sixth owned a turquoise Ford Anglia, which she says inspired the one in her books.

I hate it. This is an illustrated children's book. It has 7 illustrators. Rowling didn't do anything. They reused quotes from the novels and the rest are all lists. Seriously disappointed. What ever happened to learning about his other classmates backgrounds, like Seamus Finnegan? She once said she planned on putting that info in a new book. If you've read the series, then the only thing new is the illustrations.

Чи несе якусь цінність? З усією моєю повагою до світу ГП та любовʼю до оригінальної історії - ні. Це щось типу енциклопедії, де зібрані як цікаві факти, так і ні про що. От як: список листів, які були надіслані в кожній книжці про ГП, або список кольорів - і що саме цього кольору було в історіях. Наприклад, зелений: Гаррі мав зелені очі; Гаррі памʼятав зелене світло; це колір Слизерину і т.д. Навіщо мені ця інфа, якщо я не збираюсь брати участь в якихось змаганнях на задротське знання всього у світі ГП? Я не знаю😅
Зізнаймося - це викачування грошей з фанатів 😅 Але дітей порадує, напевно.
Думаю, авторка навіть не підозрювала, ЯК її історія перетвориться у величезний Всесвіт. І скільки десятиліть можна буде отримувати з того Всесвіту гроші. Браво🔥

I am very disappointed in this book as it offers no new information, everything is copy pasted from the already published books of the Harry Potter series, Quidditch through the ages, Fantastic beasts and Pottermore unofficial guide books. It is basically a collection of quotes.
The illustrations are generally pretty, however the overall design is very eclectic due to the fact that 7(!) illustrators worked on this book. Some illustrations are downright infantile (I am looking at you Severus Snape on the Character introduction page).
If you are just getting started with Harry Potter you might find it useful to follow who-is-who and what-is-what, but it does not add anything new at all to the already known Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

+ a colorful and pretty collectible
+ overall cozy experience
- one of the most meaningless books I've ever read. Just repeats random facts from the series (what Hagrid has found in his pockets throughout the books, what you can buy in Diagon Alley, a time line with a few Quidditch facts, a list of spells etc) and lots and lots of quotes from the book scenes.
- cluttered and not clearly organized. Took quite a while to decypher each page. It's more about the aestetics than the availability.

Harry Potter navždycky ⚡️ Jo, jsem velký fanda, ale zase nejsem fanda „koupím každou blbost, kterou někdo vydá“. Úplně narovinu říkám, že jsem byla mega zklamaná z knihy A Magical Year, nebo že Cesta dějinami čar a kouzel je sice moc fajn, ale vlastně jsem ji od vydání neotevřela 🙈 Hodně opatrně jsem se tedy těšila i na Kouzelnický almanach. O co víc jsem ale krotila svá očekávání, o to víc jsem se do něj pak zamilovala 🩵
Větší (ale ne obří) formát, sedm ilustrátorů, z nichž to ani jeden úplně neprojel (jasný, že budete mít favority, ale ani nebudete přeskakovat stránky), skvěle vyvážený poměr ilustrací a textu, smekám před překladatelkou Katkou, že všechna fakta dohledala v českých vydáních a ověřila 💪🏻 Za mě je tohle ultimátní dárek pro každého fanouška Harryho Pottera a jestli to nebudete mít všichni pod stromečkem, budou to o procento smutnější Vánoce 😁
Vážně je to krásná knížka, z celého svého potterovského srdce ji doporučuju 🙏🏻

J. K. Rowling. BURTININKŲ ALMANACHAS
Joks aš burtininkas, tuo labiau gyvenu magiškame pasaulyje, tačiau taip pat gerai suprantu, kaip kartais sunku būti dabartyje, ypač aplinkui vykstant nesutarimams, ir kaip sunku suvokti, kad tesi tik žiobaras.
Manyt, kad rašytojai J. K. Rowling būsiu dėkingas visada – jei ne jos „poteriška“ serija, vargu, ar būčiau su knygomis, prie knygų, tarp knygų ir skaityčiau taip gausiai, kaip tai darau dabar. Šilti (ar šalti, tebūnie) jausmai knygų veikėjams, pakeliui sutiktiems bendraminčiams, draugams ir kitiems lunatikams juntami iki šiolei, toks neblėstantys ilgesys, nostalgija. Daugeliui jos sukurtas pasaulis buvo erdvė, į kurią norisi pasprukti. Neneigsiu sakydamas, kad nenoriu ir dabar, tačiau dėl kažkokių pačiam nesuprantamų praktiškų sumetimų to nepadarau. Sakai, „dėl laiko stokos gyvenime“?
Taip, skaitė ir skaičiau iki Hario Poterio, tačiau po Eduardo Mieželaičio „Zuikio puikio“ atminty tarsi praraja – rodos, kad peršokau tiesiai prie trijų draugus: berniuko žaibo randu, pavojingai protingos mergaitės ir raudonplaukio jaunuolio. Suskaičiau visas knygas, papildomą literatūrą, supirkau skirtingus lietuviškus leidimus, sužiūrėjau visus filmus, skaičiau galybę straipsnių, pykau ant autorės dėl kai kurių jos pasisakymų, siutau dėl bandymų perkurti filmus į serialus (vis tik žinau, kad veizėsiu). Haris Poteris yra diagnozė, iki grabo.
Prisiminiau įdomų faktą, kurio, rodos, nebūsiu anksčiau minėjęs – mokykloje, per Kalėdų vakarėlį, keičiantis dovanomis, „Hario Poterio ir Azkabano kalinio“ knygą man padovanojo tuomet pats nemėgstamiausias mano klasiokas Aivaras. Dabar prisimenant Aivarą (o gal jo mamą?) nusišypsau, nes dovanota dovana seka paskui mane jau labai ilgai (faktas, kad ilgiau nei kitų dovanos), kad ir koks jis tuo metu buvo priešas.
„Burtininkų almanachas“ – tarsi žinynas, į kurį panirti vienas malonumas. Neįsivaizduoju, koks jis bus kitiems, tik pradedantiems pažintį su šiuo stebuklingu pasauliu, tačiau man – po dvidešimties metų (o gal ir daugiau) – tikras prisiminimų šaltinis. Tais ankstesniais laikais mes patys kūrėme savo almanachus, tačiau dabar, thank you Rowling, naujai kartai užduotį ir skaitymą palengvino pati autorė, valio!
Kvaila tikėti, kad žinojau viską – buvo naujos informacijos! Gerai, jog ši knyga tapo jungtimi tarp knygų ir filmų, kitų „poteriškų“ leidinių ir tokio daugeliui gerai pažįstamo pasaulio.
Rekomenduoju. Leidinys-šventė – vizuali ir iliustratyvi bomba, pilna informacijos ir mintinai žinomų citatų. Pagaliau sulaukėme laikų, kai žinynai ne tokie nuobodūs! Panirti į mums priebėga tapusio pasaulio dalį bent trumpam yra jauku. O kitiems, neskaičiusiems, rekomenduoju šalia septynių pagrindinių turėti ir šią tam atvejui, jei prasprūs kokia įdomybė tarp Zitos Marienės verstų knygų puslapių (vertėja išvis kaip atskiras knygos veikėjas, apie kurį ir pati autorė nieko nežinojo).
Neprisimenu, ar ši citata buvo knygoje, tačiau puikiai žinau, kad girdėta filme. Nuo to laiko, kuomet išgirdau pirmąkart, mėginau ją įgarsinti savo aplinkoje, tačiau tikrai ne taip gerai, kaip kad pavyko išversti Gabrielei Šilobritaitei:
„Jei tavo visi jausmai telpa arbatiniame šaukštelyje, nereiškia, kad ir mūsų taip pat...“
Ačiū, Gabriele. Ir leidyklai.

A tavalyi év nagy szenzációja volt, hogy megjelenik a nagy Harry Potter Varázsalmanach, és gondolom sokunknál landolt karácsonyi ajándékként akár angolul, akár magyarul, hiszen az Animus Kiadó is gyorsan kapcsolt, és kiadták magyarul is.
Egy nyomdacsoda és festéktenger ez a könyv, az illusztrált kiadások koronázatlan királya, amelyben hét különböző illusztrátor munkája elegyedik. Ettől a sokféle stílustól, a sokszínűségtől kissé eklektikus az egész, de ez összességében nem zavaró.
Az illusztrátorok: Peter Goes, Louise Lockhart, Weitong Mai, Olia Muza, Pham Quang Phuc, Levi Pinfold and Tomislav Tomic.
Nem sok újat fogok tudni mondani az Almanach-ról, mint amit minden más értékelésben és blogbejegyzésben is olvashattatok már, és aminek a veleje az, hogy szép, sőt gyönyörű, de mégis mi az értelme ennek a könyvnek? Kinek készült? Információt nemigen tartalmaz újat - vagy bármi, ami ebből új volt esetleg egy HP olvasónak, vagy netán csak elfeledkezett róla, azt egy google-kereséssel is megtalálja, és ezen kívül pedig csak egy színes-szagos bogarásznivaló az egész, vegyes színvonalon.
Vannak benne elbódítóan részletgazdag oldalpárok, igazán varázsos elképzelések, de infantilis listák, furcsa összefoglalók, skiccszerű, már-már gagyi rajzok is. Mindez pedig tele van tűzdelve idézetekkel és random tényekkel a hét HP kötetből.
Egy rajongó polcán szerintem ott a helye, és érdemes néhány órát eltölteni a böngészésével, már csak azért is, hogy esetleg meghozza a kedvet egy újraolvasáshoz.
Sok része művészi értékű, kidolgozott, szép, és a szépnek végülis mi egyéb célja van a művészetben, mint gyönyörködtetni? Ennek eleget tesz.

Információt nemigen tartalmaz újat - vagy bármi, ami ebből új volt esetleg egy HP olvasónak, vagy netán csak elfeledkezett róla, azt egy google-kereséssel is megtalálja, és ezen kívül pedig csak egy színes-szagos bogarásznivaló az egész, vegyes színvonalon.
Vannak benne elbódítóan részletgazdag oldalpárok, igazán varázsos elképzelések, de infantilis listák, furcsa összefoglalók, skiccszerű, már-már gagyi rajzok is. Mindez pedig tele van tűzdelve idézetekkel és random tényekkel a hét HP kötetből.
Egy rajongó polcán szerintem ott a helye, és érdemes néhány órát eltölteni a böngészésével, már csak azért is, hogy esetleg meghozza a kedvet egy újraolvasáshoz.
Sok része művészi értékű, kidolgozott, szép, és a szépnek végülis mi egyéb célja van a művészetben, mint gyönyörködtetni? Ennek eleget tesz.

Ta książka jest naprawdę warta swojej ceny! Tyle się w niej dzieje i prezentuje się cudownie. Informacje może nie są jakieś mega szczegółowe, ale wizualnie zachwyca. Nada się zarówno dla starszych fanów jak i czytania z dziećmi. Naprawdę cieszę się, że ją kupiłam.
Książka jest pełna cytatów z serii, co bardzo mi się podobało. Mam wrażenie, że informacje pochodzą głównie z 7 książek, a nie jakichś innych info dodawanych później do kanonu.
Fajnie że artyści którzy tworzyli Almanach są z różnych krajów. Pochodzenie z różnych kultur i środowisk dało tym stylom jeszcze więcej różnorodności i to widać. Wiadomo, niektóre rysunki podobały mi się bardziej, inne mniej, ale i tak książka jest po prostu magiczna!

I really enjoyed this, in all honesty. It was a fun compendium of wizarding history, facts, and trivia. The illustrations from the different artists captured everything uniquely and beautifully. I’d love to look through this again!

“Хари Потър: Магьоснически алманах” е едно издание, което маниаците трябва да имат. То е идеално за сезона около Хелоуин и Коледа, така че да те пренесе отново в спомените за любимия магически свят. За жалост обаче извън романтиката от копнежа към едни отминали години и безупречното в техническо отношение изпълнение, то няма други художествени достойнства.

Чудово провела час з книгою❤️ Саме те, що потрібно дорослим фанатам ГП, щоб заповільнитися і відчути справжню магію. Для мене це більше книга-картинка або, навіть, віммельбух😁 Відчувається, що працювали різні ілюстратори, тому не всі розвороти мені однаково сподобалися.

The illustrations were very pretty and detailed, but the quotes and most of the information could already be found in the Harry Potter series. My favorite part was the Hogwarts library, and looking at all the books. I also enjoyed the forbidden forest illustration and the map of Hogwarts.

I'm a little disappointed, because I expected to find out new information about the characters, details that are not in the books, but instead it's not like that.
The information from the books is just arranged by area, and with many quotes from the books.
Instead, they are arranged and grouped with meaning, with beautiful illustrations.
If you want to learn new things about the world of Harry Potter, it won't happen.

Ce livre, présenté comme « Le guide ultime » (que je déteste ce titre français) de la saga Harry Potter est un vrai petit bijou illustré par 7 artistes et reprenant toutes les informations distillées dans les livres et sur le site Pottermore pour celles et ceux qui l’ont connus (lève le doigt si t’es de la team vieux Potterhead).

Pour ce qui est des informations, pour celles et ceux qui ont lus toutes les pages, la moindre ligne du site, je ne crois pas qu’il y ait beaucoup de nouvelles informations et de réponses à des questions sans réponses. Personnellement, j’ai beau avoir tout lu ou presque, je peux vous assurer qu’il y a tout un tas d’éléments que j’avais oublié que j’ai été ravie de redécouvrir ici. Encore et toujours un moyen de prolonger la magie en redécouvrant cet univers que j’aime tant.

Le gros point fort du livre, c’est la mise en page qui se renouvelle sans cesse grâce au travail des 7 illustrateurs qui ont été fantastiques. Cela nous permet d’avoir différentes représentations pour un même lieu, un même concept, toutes différentes. Ce qui montre bien que la représentation que l’on se fait de ce monde est propre à chacun, influencée par les films ou non. J’ai été plus sensible à certains traits qu’à d’autres mais j’ai été émerveillée à chaque fois !

Věřím, že jste tuhle nádhernou encyklopedii zaznamenali a doufám, že pokud ji ještě nemáte doma, najdete ji pod stromečkem.
Je to pastva pro oči. V knize najdete nádherné ilustrace od sedmi umělců. Jsou propracované do nejmenších detailů a díky tomu je čtení Kouzelnického almanachu neskutečný zážitek.
Po časové ose se čtenář blíže seznámí s hlavními postavami, přejde na obyčejný život v magickém světě (sport, pověry, dopravní prostředky a slavnosti), navštíví kouzelná místa (Prasinky, Příčnou ulici nebo Doupě), samozřejmě zavítá do Bradavic a do všech jejích koutů, co by to bylo za svět čar a kouzel bez zaklínadel a kleteb, dále se čtenář podívá ke Gringottovým do kouzelnické banky, na Ministerstvo kouzel nebo třeba do Azkabanu a na konci čekají nadpřirozené bytosti.
V tomto oficiálním průvodci zkrátka najdete vše, na co si jen vzpomenete. Je to kniha, ke které se budete vracet a vsadím se, že i při dalších listování tam najdete věci, kterých jste si předtím nevšimli.
Co mě šíleně baví, tak jsou rozkládací strany, díky kterým dostanete úplná panoramata Bradavic a okolí nebo třeba Zapovězeného lesa.
Ze světa Harryho Pottera jsem si hodně oblíbila fantastická zvířata. A Hagrid tu má nádhernou dvoustranu věnovanou jeho mazlíčkům. Kterého z nich máte nejradši a proč?

Kétségkívül gyönyörű kiadású könyv, csodálatos rajzokkal, illusztrációkkal, jó volt esténként pár oldalt átnézegetni, és megcsodálni, ez kétségtelen. De hogy mi haszna van ennek a kötetnek, azt nem tudom. Új infó alig volt benne. Az internet előtti világban lett volna haszna, egy helyre gyűjtött fontos infókat. Ha pl. kíváncsi lennék, kinek volt hattyú a patrónusa, fellapoznám, és meg is van a válasz. De az internet világában gyorsabb beírni a böngészőbe a kérdést, mint átlapozni a válaszért a könyvet. Ha egyszer visszakerülünk az internet előtti világba, akkor majd jól jöhet. :)
Voltak kedvenc oldalaim, pl. a Roxfort felosztása, ezt valóban nem láttam így egyben még. Vagy Hagrid kunyhója, a patrónusok, a legendás állatok.
Nem bántam meg, hogy megvettem, de kicsit drága a fentiek tükrében.

loved this so much. would be especially good for people who have been away from the series for a while! just keep in mind that it doesn’t include new information (some background information that weren‘t in the books but no necessary knowledge for the plot), but just functions as an illustrated compendium.
two things i thought could have been better:
1. there was one 'chapter' that didn’t really have any structure (which kind of botheres me ngl)
2. some topics could have been elaborated on
