Actual Rating: 1.5 stars

DNF at 90%. I stopped only one hour short of finishing the audiobook.

The book just wasn't telling me anything, so I figured it was not going to be able to redeem itself in the hour that I got left and so I did't think it worth it to finish it.

I am not really sure why , but I kept comparing it to The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa, maybe because I read it recently and they both are set in an post-apocalypse universe with zombies involve in the mix. The thing is that I kind of preferred to be reading The Immortal Rules again than The Reapers are the Angels . To me the book missed a mark, it definitely missed something because there was something lacking there! Maybe I am just too old for this book, I don´t know.

To me, this was an empty book, lots of words with nothing to tell. This book was like having the dinner table set, the fork in your hand ready to be used, but the plate in front of you only have broccoli, where did all the meat went to? I would like to know, because tonight I am going to bed hungry!

Gavin Great review:) I felt much the same and agree that this compares unfavorably to a book like The Immortal Rules.

Penny Well Reads Thank you Gavin.
My opinion might have been a little more favorable if I had read The Reapers are the Angels first, but alas...

Gavin I doubt it! This could have been my first post apocalyptic book and I'd still have moaned at the writing quality.

Penny Well Reads Oh, well.
It's just that it has so many good reviews that it confuses me...some of them seem to have read a completely different book!

Gavin I often find that reviewers are reading a completely different book from me. The more critical acclaim and decelerations of "great writing" a book receives the less likely I am to enjoy it. I hate a book that feels pretentious. Which this did at times.

hIpnoticraQs I don't understand all of the good reviews either.

Penny Well Reads I just don't see how this book is critically acclaimed. Even if the writing is good, the story told needs to have a good content, and this one was hollow.

Yodamom Sorry it didn't work for you. Hopefully you'll find a winner next time

Yes, I hope so!

Hahaha, I like broccoli too, but I prefer to eat it as part of a dish, not as the entire meal.

Emma Brink I did the same thing. I tried giving this book a chance but the "plot" was all over the place. Once we got to white lobster people I had to bow out. Everything felt rushed and the pacing was odd, especially since I felt no connection to the main character whatsoever.
