really liked it

AH and Regina did an excellent review of this book here...

http://badassbookreviews.com/review-t...

or you can read my much less exciting review below...

4.5 stars out of 5

If you could take all the strong, fearless, intelligent, compassionate female characters from all the books you have read, you'll come close to Temple's character.

If you take all the screwed up, guilt ridden, angry, sad female characters from the books you have read, you'll come close to Temple's character.

Temple will go down as one of the most memorable characters I've had the pleasure reading about in a long time.

The zombies, the adventure across the country, is just the setting for the reader to meet and love Temple.

It is a good thing too since there is alot wrong with the world building in this book. In fact, there is none. Why are the shelves still stocked with plenty of food? How is there still gas? How are the trains running? What caused people to turn into zombies? And so on and so on. Even with the lack of world building, the book was incredible!

There is an incredible set of minor characters in the book as well. I fell hard for Maury. A wordless man that spoke volumes about love, compassion and gentleness.

Oh and one more annoying point- There are no quotation marks. I'm not sure why, but not one quotation mark.

I easily would have given this book 5 stars but I had to take a half star off due to the lack of world building and the lack of quotation marks.

One of the best books I've read in 2011!

Why didn't everything get run over, used up, destroyed? Why are the streets still intact, why is there power in most places? Why am I asking so many questions?"
June 15, 2011 –
28.0% "Temple is an incredible character. It's a good thing since the lack of world building and the lack of quotation marks would normally have me stop the book. BUT, this is a character driven book in a dystopian setting without the focus on the dystopian setting. I know that makes no sense but oh well! LOL Really, the setting could be a dark room and I'd probably love it because of Temple!"

She is quite the survivor & she tries to NOT feel but it is clear that she does (what she did for Dummy was pure compassion even if she calls him dummy). Making him go pick flowers so she could (not gonna say, it is a spoiler). I'm just ramblin here."

Wendy Darling Are you posting this just to appease me??

Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker LOL! No, of course not, I'm taking your suggestion and running with it. I'm going to read this one next!

Wendy Darling Yay! Enjoy. :)

I should have done this long ago! Thanks for the reminder. I just simply forgot to get this on my ebook so I could read it! I've wanted to, I just put it off since I had it on audiobook but you are right, it needs to be read not listened to!

Jamie ~ Bad Boy Inspector Thanks Michelle I was looking for a book to read and I think I have this one so i will go and give it a try.

I hope you like it Jamie. I think you will. We are pretty "dead" on (zombie humor..hehe) with our likes/dislikes!

Wendy Darling Evil Wendy and Maja! You didn't tell me I'd be needing a box of Kleenex tissues at the end!!! Review coming soon.

It's zombies Michelle, of course you need tissues! I can't wait to read your review.

I'm doing so bad with my reviews lately. I'm so far behind. I'm determined to do at least 5 reviews this weekend. Especially since I have 4 days off with no kids, & no hubby!

Btw, thanks for recommending this book. I was a bit iffy on the beginning but I absolutely loved it!

Wendy Darling I'm so happy you loved it! Thought it would be one you'd appreciate.

I'm behind on my reviews, too. A couple of them I've been putting off because I feel bad that I disliked them so much. :/ Poor Candlewick.

I hate doing reviews on books I didn't like. Lately, I've liked the majority of books I've read (I think only one out of 7 from this past week I didn't enjoy).

Maja (The Nocturnal Library) I'm so glad you liked it! But the end came as a complete surprise to me too, and I liked it that way. :)

Now, should we cheer for a review or what? I have my pom poms ready!

I promise, by Saturday morning, I'll have a review. I won't have anytime today, I have to work (where I actually do work believe or not) and tonight, I have to get two kids on a plane to AZ (easy part) and a hubby and 4 other males in a SUV to Las Vegas (impossible).

Shelley I totally agree with you on the whole why is there still food on the shelves and power on and gas that still somehow still pumps. I mean, really? After how many years? Thanks to Wendy and Michelle for hyping this book.

It's amazing that I could love a book even though the world makes no sense!

Shelley I just received Deadline from the library today. I hear that's one not to miss as well.

Oh you'll love it. Just don't read any spoilers in any reviews!

There is another zombie book that looks really good coming up... Raising Stony Mayhall Raising Stony Mayhall by Daryl Gregory

Shelley Thanks Michelle :O)

Shelley I just put Warm Bodies, another you mentioned, on hold just now from my library. Just call it what it is, an addiction.

Join the club Shelley! I seem to have a thing about Zombies. I wonder what that says about me?

Shelley It's like Zombies are the new black in fashion, or shall I say retro fashion? We've gone from vampires to a vapid progression towards the apocalypse and doomsday. Hell I remember watching Night of the Living Dead when I was a wee tottler. Holy crap did I just out my age! :O) Wow, now I need to start writing again!

Well I was a kid too when that movie came out so we must be close in age! I love zombies and how creative the authors have been with the recent zombie books. For some reason, the zombie books are really, really good!

Shelley We need a zombie support group! :) I still have Rebirth, as well as Eat, Slay, Love in my ARC que to read pile. Maybe by this weekend I'll be finished with one or the other. Then again, it's not like I'm actually working right now! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I liked Rebirth. If I had to pick a recent zombie book as my favorite it would have to be Deadline. Followed by Warm Bodies and then this one.

Shelley I appreciate your giving me these ideas to what I should read next. Sometimes I get stuck in the YA genre for some lame reason, and can't get away.

I'm such a moody reader. I sometimes will cycle through 5 to 10 books (just the first few chapters) before I decide which one I really want to read.

Regina Great review Michelle. I agree, I loved this book.

Thanks Regina. I loved your group review with AH!

Regina IT was fun, particularly because we disagreed. Kind of a She said/She said thing. Agreeing is fun too, but sometimes disagree is also (in a friendly way). :)

I know. As a group, we don't disagree much, sometimes we have to find small little stuff to disagree about.
